Last week we had three variants on a Subaru Legacy Outback theme: the sedan, the pick up, and the classic lifted wagon. Today we look at two other wagons that helped promote the lifted wagon craze as well as a later Legacy from the well respected fourth generation. Do you prefer a Japanese, German, or Swedish crossover?

Here we have a low mileage (108K), well equipped, and clean titled Legacy Outback from what many consider to be the best looking Legacy, the 4th gen. Does its manual, AWD powertrain appeal to you or does its plebeian flat four engine when compared to the other two drive you away?

No your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This is one of the rare, six speed manual Allroads that exist in the states, mated to the venerable but notorious twin turbo six. Does this luxurious beast appeal to you with its 103K miles, or is its horrible reputation for reliability too much of a turn off?

It may be the priciest here but the venerable XC70 has carried the classic Volvo wagon into the 21 century in a form that Americans actually buy. Here it has just 108K miles on its turbo 5 although its Haldex AWD system has often been noted as subpar. Does its Swedishness beat out the negatives?

That Outback is fairly rare in it’s own right. It’s one of about 5,000 manual XTs.

Well that’s difficult to do a UCFO on because it had no competition...

Surprising that these two rare birds both happen to be near me at the same time...

Dream car! One day I’ll park one next to my future E46 M3.

I’ve had mine for just over a year now, they're fantastic cars. Try to go for an 08-09. They're the rarest of the bunch with only 900 manuals produced in the two years, but they're the most reliable and have things the earlier cars don't like USB compatibility

What do they have in them, specifically? I know it is a turbo 2.5. An EJ255?

Yes, it is the 255
